Unfortunately courtyards and hutongs are rapidly giving way to high rise flats and buildings. Staying in a Beijing courtyard is a unique way to experience what traditional life in Beijing once was. Some of the courtyards consist of several households, where as others consist of only one, with the different rooms surrounding the central courtyard.
